According to land records dating back to the 1880’s, the farmland was purchased by John Bryant Jr. He and his family settled into the Hothouse community not long after. John had three children, Joseph, Lilly and Samuel. Joseph married Augusta “Gussie” Stiles in 1898.
Joseph and Gussie were active members of Hopewell Baptist Church. Joseph was a deacon at the church and was also a practicing Mason. He could often be seen carrying his lantern for miles through the woods at night on his way to and from the Masonic Lodge meetings.
They had eight children with John Bascomb Bryant being the youngest.
John married Maddie Chambers and they had
two children, Glenda Faye and Charles Bryant.
Charles began working the farm as a young boy and continues to
maintain the beautiful property today.
Charles married Donna Foster in 1965 and have one daughter, Joy Bryant.
